Differences between coils and coils of galvanized wire




In coils, sandwiches and rosettes, there are only two ends of the wire.
The sandwich has only two ends, but it consists of 4 skeins connected to each other.
Rosetta differs from coils and sandwiches in that the coils of wire are superimposed in the form of a camomile when it is formed.
When installing the rosette on the unwinder, which lifts the wire up, it does not get tangled. This significantly reduces waste.

In order to find out how much a running meter weighs, you need to multiply the specific gravity of iron 7850 by the volume (in m 3 ) that a meter of galvanized wire occupies. That is, 7850 * (d * 0.001 / 2) 2 * 3.14.

Increased gloss improves the presentation, but when used in the air, after a while it will not differ in anything.
Gloss has no effect on corrosion resistance. For corrosion resistance, the specific gravity of zinc on the surface is important.
Methods for coating wire with zinc
- Hot galvanized. The most protected cover. Passes through a bath of molten zinc.
- Electrolytic galvanizing. Corrosion resistance depends on how much zinc coating the equipment is set to. The wire is pulled through a bath of zinc salts and electrolytically deposited on the surface.
- Drawing galvanized wire. In the process of tightening, it loses a lot of zinc, so the degree of protection against corrosion is low. Production in which galvanized wire of large diameter is pulled into a thinner one.
Considering that Zn does not spread uniformly on the surface during hot-dip galvanizing, the zinc thickness is determined in g/m 2 .
How to determine the thickness of zinc coating.
The wire (a small piece) is weighed on a laboratory scale, and all Zn is removed from it by chemical methods. After that, they are weighed again.
Knowing the length and diameter, calculate the surface area.
The difference in weights is divided by the area and the amount of Zn per m 2 area is obtained - the specific gravity of the zinc coating.
Why do some manufacturers have a shiny galvanized wire, while others have a gray, matte, non-shiny surface? Because during galvanizing, the wire passes through a bath of molten zinc. After the wire with zinc adhering to the surface leaves the bath, heated zinc reacts intensively with atmospheric oxygen and a protective film of Zn oxides is formed, which has a gray color and a non-shiny surface.
But you need to throw dust in the eyes of the buyer and make the wire visually more attractive!!! For this, some manufacturers, after the wire comes out of the zinc melt, install special cooling units. This is done so that the zinc cools quickly. In this case, it will react more slowly with atmospheric oxygen, and until the buyer buys the wire, the zinc on the surface will shine.
After some time, the buyer will find that his wire is no longer different from galvanized wire, which at first did not shine. Nothing to do about. Zinc will still slowly oxidize. Therefore, chasing brilliance does not make sense and, moreover, you should not overpay for it.

Production technology of galvanized wire
Galvanized wire is produced as follows:
The wire rod is cleaned of scale.
Cleaning takes place either in acid pickling baths or in a stone breaker.
wire rod is drawn on drawing mills to the required diameter, winding it onto coils. If the wire breaks during the drawing process, it is butt welded on spot welding machines.
Finally, it passes through a bath of molten zinc. In the electrolytic method, instead of a melt, it is passed through a bath with a solution of zinc-containing salts and Zn is deposited on the surface by electrolytic deposition.
If necessary, simultaneously with galvanizing, it is subjected to annealing in tubes. Small diameter wire is packed in paper, boxes, etc.
In Ukraine, there are enterprises that buy galvanized wire of large diameters as raw materials and reduce its diameter to the required size on drawing mills. But, most of the zinc crumbles and the degree of protection against corrosion is reduced. It does not comply with GOST 3282-74 in terms of Zn density, so we recommend that buyers be interested in production technology if they buy from a little-known company.
