The steel from which the wire is made is characterized by a chemical composition that gives it certain properties. Wire with a carbon content of less than 0.12% is called low carbon wire . The low carbon content makes the wire softer and more ductile.

Wire protected against corrosion

To protect low-carbon wire from corrosion, it is coated with zinc or PVC coating.
Resistance to rusting processes depends on the method of galvanizing.

Raw materials for the production of low-carbon steel wire:

wire rod D=6.5 mm or 5.5 mm St0M (for D= 1.6 mm - 6.0 mm), Sv08(A) (for D= 0.3 0.7 mm), St1KP (for D= 0.8 6.0 mm), St3 (for D = 4.0 -6.0 mm).

Producers of low-carbon wire mainly use wire rod produced by Mittal Steel Kryvyi Rih OJSC.

Low-quality wire in agriculture and industry

Production of nails - light, thermally untreated low-carbon wire with a diameter of 1 - 6 mm.

Nail manufacturers prefer wire in heavy coils of 1-1.3 tons.

Tapestries for hanging hops. An annealed wire with a diameter of 1 mm and an unannealed wire with a diameter of 3 mm are used. Hooks are made from 3 mm low-carbon wire, to which a 1 mm wire is tied and pulled between spacers. Hops are hung on a 1mm low-carbon wire.
It is important that the 1 mm low-carbon wire be annealed (soft), because the hard low-carbon wire, when broken, springs and injures workers. The low-carbon wire 3 mm must be sufficiently ductile so that the hooks do not break off when bent.

The scheme of installation of grape trellises

For vineyards, galvanized annealed or not thermally treated low-carbon wire with a diameter of 2.2 or 2.5 mm in coils of 80-120 kg is used. Grape trellises are made from this wire by stretching it between grape stakes (steel or reinforced concrete). A grapevine is hung on it.

For the production of a welded mesh , a wire of thermally untreated wire with a diameter of 0.6-4 mm is used. Some manufacturers use annealed wire.

For the production of other meshes: twisted mesh, corrugated mesh, hinged mesh.

For communication lines - For overhead communication lines there is a special GOST: galvanized steel wire for overhead communication lines (GOST 1668-73). This wire is distinguished by the rationing of electrical resistance, lower relative elongation, and it is made of steel grade T. But according to this GOST, manufacturers are reluctant to manufacture wire. It is economically unprofitable to purchase small batches of steel T, it is easier to produce a more running wire in accordance with GOST 3282-74. It is quite suitable for its properties for communication lines. Its main drawback is that it sags to a greater extent when heated, but this is not critical. For these purposes, both annealed and solid wire are purchased. Annealed wire is easier to wind at height, but it sags more during summer heating compared to non-thermally treated wire. The main wire sizes applicable for communication lines are 2-2.5 mm. In addition, 4 mm wire is used as an auxiliary wire. Considering that they work with wire at height, they buy wire in small coils for communication.

For the production of barbed wire, annealed zinc is used. wire with a diameter of 1.4-2.8 mm.
