The price depends on the type of wire pre-treatment. The cheapest wire is the usual non-heat-treated (hard) wire coated with a polymer (PVC). The most expensive is annealed (soft) wire, coated with zinc, and then a polyvinyl chloride coating (PVC) is applied. With mechanical damage to the polymer, zinc will protect the wire from corrosion.
PVC coating
- PVC, plastic, resistant to alkalis, mineral oils, many acids and solvents.
To improve frost resistance and to preserve color, auxiliary additives are added to PVC.
PVC coating has low permeability to liquids, vapors and gases, therefore it is the most common polymer for the manufacture of roofing materials, fences, windows. Polymeric (PVC) coating in relation to zinc coating is more advantageous for use in the marine area, in aggressive industrial areas and near livestock farms (where there is manure fumes).
Polymer (PVC) coated wire without scratches and damage can serve more than 50 years.
Polyvinyl chloride PVC is one of the cheapest and most popular polymers, providing the best price-quality ratio for many products.
DO NOT CONFUSE PVC coating and just "polymer coating". Many under the usual polymer coating mean polymer powder paint. Both powder paint and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are polymers, but PVC is a plastic and the PVC layer is much thicker than the powder paint layer.
