Steel fiber for concrete

Advantages of technological steel fiber

The use of steel fiber in some cases has certain advantages over traditionally reinforced concrete. A certain amount of steel fiber (25-50 kg/m3) is evenly distributed in the concrete mixture, resulting in a three-dimensional structure. This steel fiber structure withstands tensile forces and prevents the opening of microcracks, which are often caused by moisture or stress.
As a result, steel-fiber-reinforced concrete has a significantly longer service life compared to steel-reinforced concrete.

Advantages of economic steel fiber

Buying fiber and using it in concrete work means saving material costs and time of work .
There are no delays caused by the installation of standard fasteners, no need to place a grid on the floor, it is possible to produce large concrete slabs with fewer staff. Concrete structures using steel fibers have the best quality, which is expressed in the fact that it increases: 1.5-2 times the tensile strength in bending, 20 times the ultimate tensile strain.
Also, concrete with the use of fiber increases frost resistance, water resistance, corrosion resistance, wear resistance and resistance to shock and seismological effects.

Technology of work with steel fiber.

RECOMMENDED DOSAGES

The amount of fiber in steel fiber concrete per 1 m 3 of steel fiber concrete mix (SFC) is dictated by the requirements for the physical and mechanical properties of steel fiber reinforced concrete. These properties depend on the conditions of use.
The amount of fiber in steel fiber concrete depends on the area of use and is recommended in kg / m 3 :
For industrial floor slabs - 20-40;
For structures of residential buildings - 25-50;
For structures and facilities operated under environmental conditions - 40-70;
For tunnel structures, roads, etc. -50-100;

Depending on the loads on steel fiber concrete structures, the following steel fiber consumption rates per 1 m 3 should be used
With light dynamic load - 15-30 kg/m3
With an average dynamic load - 30-40 kg / m3
With a large dynamic load - 40-75 kg / m3
Strong patterns - 75-150 kg / m3.

Steel fibers are added during, before and after concrete preparation. There is a special conveyor for adding steel fibers, but you can add steel fibers without it.

A more uniform arrangement of steel fibers in concrete is obtained by adding steel fibers to the finished concrete mix.

It is necessary to prevent steel fibers from getting into the concrete mixture in lumps.

LAYING CONCRETE WITH STEEL FIBER

Steel fiber concrete is laid both with conventional vibrators and with steel fiber concrete laying machines. On small volumes manual laying of concrete with steel fibers is possible. When using steel fibers , a high density of concrete is obtained, a more even concrete surface is provided and its physical characteristics are improved.
The final treatment of the concrete surface is carried out by a trowel or hand trowel. Smoothing the surface of fiber- reinforced concrete is carried out immediately after pouring the concrete. The result is a smooth surface, with no protruding parts of the steel fibers . Some types of steel fibers are also produced, which minimize the protrusion of parts of the steel fibers on the surface.

The use of steel fiber.

Steel fiber creates useful properties of concrete: rigidity and strength. These properties of steel-fiber concrete allow designers to design structures that can withstand heavy loads. Concrete with steel fiber (fiber-reinforced concrete) is used in equipment foundations, slabs of airfield runways, highways, shotcrete, anti-landslide slabs and coastal structures, earthquake-resistant structures, for the construction of valuables in banks, in civil engineering, in the installation of self-leveling floors.
