Welded mesh for gabions

Welded gabion is a box made of welded wire mesh, which is filled mainly with stones. Typically, welded gabions are made in individual sizes with a square or rectangular cell, ranging in size from 50 to 200 mm , depending on the fraction of stone with which the gabion box will be filled. The recommended wire diameter is from 3 to 6 mm at the request of the customer.

The size of the welded panels to create the box is selected based on the tasks on the ground. At the first stage, the customer makes a simple sketch for himself in order to understand how many gabions and what size he will need. Because further, after the manufacture of gabions, the customer will create the planned structure from them, like from Lego blocks.

We produce welded galvanized and hot-dip galvanized gabions with increased corrosion protection. The thickness of the zinc coating on such gabions is 70-120 microns, which is equivalent to 500-700 g/m2. This coating is achieved by hot dip galvanizing by immersing the entire panel in a zinc bath.

In Ukraine, no one else makes welded gabions with such a thick zinc coating.

Examples of the use of decorative gabions in landscape design

Wicker gabions are made of twisted mesh, which tends to change the size of the cell and, accordingly, the entire box. They are used where the correctness of geometric shapes and strength does not matter. This is bank protection and strengthening of soils on embankments. It is recommended to cover the top layer of wicker gabions with earth and plant grass and trees. Thus, the roots of plants, growing through gabions, strengthen the entire structure.

The process of creating gabion structures for fences and architectural forms

Since the soil is softer and lighter than gabions, for starters, you need to create a cushion of crushed stone or concrete. Otherwise, massive gabions will sink into the ground. If the geometry is not important and if the gabions are less than 1 m high and 30 cm wide, the pillow can be omitted.

The gabion ribs are connected by a fastening spiral, which is screwed between two adjacent sides. You can use staples and a crimping tool or just galvanized wire. Some customers use clamps for cables and ropes.

To ensure that welded gabions do not swell under the weight of the filler, the opposite sides of the gabion are connected with hooks or a diaphragm.

After the gabion structure is assembled, it should be filled with stones or other filler.
In this case, smaller and cheaper stones should be poured into the middle of the decorative gabion, and larger and more expensive stones should be poured on the outer sides of the gabion.

Gabions use stones that are mined in the same area. Each regional center has its own quarry. It makes no sense to carry pebbles across half the country if there is a granite quarry nearby. But if the customer is aware of the price of the issue, then the stones for the gabion are selected from any Ukrainian quarry. Hardware-94 does not supply stones for gabions.
