Fence post compariso

grid post When planning to fence your territory with a mesh fence, special attention must be paid to the choice of poles for its installation. By saving on mesh, you can increase the cost of poles, and by putting good mesh on a cheap pole, you can reduce the life of the mesh. But first things first.

When there is a need for a fence of any site, the first thought that will arise in the majority is: “I need to buy a chain-link mesh.”

Over the past 100 years, the chain-link mesh has been widely used to build a fence around any area around the world.

But progress does not stand still and the manufacturer offers a more functional and cheaper mesh - Kazachka mesh .

In addition to other advantages, if for the chain-link mesh it is required to install poles at a distance of 2-2.5 m, then for the Kazachka mesh - from 4 to 10 m.

So which pole is best for a fence?

Poles for mounting the mesh Chain-link and Kazachka mesh can be divided into two fundamentally different types:

The service life of concrete pillars is from 50 to 100 years and has a low cost - a concrete pillar, 2.2 m high, as of October 2019. will cost you 130 - 180 UAH per piece, depending on the reinforcement. A concrete pole - at first glance, the cheapest pole for a chain-link, but not everything is so simple. Concrete poles are very expensive to deliver, because. they are heavy, bulky and fragile, and easily damaged. Another significant disadvantage of concrete pillars can be called their unaesthetic. Even immediately after installation, the fence looks untidy, and after several years of operation, the post will weather, potholes will appear, and if the concrete was of poor quality, it may partially crumble.

In the course of conducting research on the reliability of concrete, asbestos-cement, metal, wooden poles for 15 years, it was revealed that not a single metal pole failed, 11% of concrete, 8% of asbestos-cement, 35% of wooden poles were damaged.

Metal poles are much more aesthetically pleasing, cheaper to ship and more durable. On sale you can often find posts for chain-links from round, square or rectangular shaped pipes, which are made from C235 steel.

Quite recently, Kazachka rail steel posts appeared on the market of metal posts, the fundamental difference from profile posts is the star-shaped three-pointed cut shape.

Comparison of the chemical properties of the steel from which fence posts are made:

Steel Mass fraction of the element, %, no more Yield strength, ReH, MPa Tensile strength (tensile strength), Rm, MPa
FROM Mn Si S P Cr Ni Cu
Steel C235 0.22 0.6 0.05 0.05 0.04 0.3 0.3 0.3 0.08 245 370
Rail steel 0.5 0.76 0.21 0.01 0.025 0 0 0 0 459 841

The increased content of carbon, silicon and manganese increases the hardness, strength and elasticity of the rail steel product. A lower content of harmful impurities, sulfur and phosphorus, increases corrosion resistance, reduces cold brittleness and red brittleness.

Profile poles 2 mm thick are made of rolled galvanized steel, and Cossack posts have a thickness of 4 mm edges. And they are galvanized by immersion in a bath - this allows you to cover the most possible layer of zinc - 320g / sq.m.

Thus, due to the chemical composition, thickness and galvanizing method, Kazachka poles are less susceptible to deformation and corrosion. The service life of poles from a 1 mm profile pipe is about 30 years, and from a rail pipe - from 50 to 100 years.

Installing poles when installing a fence

Cossack grid post

To install the Chain-link Grid, metal posts from a profile pipe are installed in the ground and poured with concrete. To install the mesh on profile poles, it will be necessary to purchase more fasteners, tensioners for wire, and the Cossack rail steel poles have either spikes or holes for installation, depending on the type of pole.

Pole for mesh chain-link The T-shaped column of the Cossack is modified with spikes for attaching the net and a metal stabilizer plate welded to the base of the column. Thus, the column has a large area of resistance to the ground when pressure is applied to the opposite part of the column. Based on what, the pillar will stand firmly in the ground, and withstand the pressure of animals without concreting the base. Thanks to this, the pole can also be used as a portable pasture fence. However, for safety reasons, if the fence is to be fixed, it is recommended that they be concreted.

The U-shaped column of the Cossack has holes and a pointed end. The post is easily driven into the ground using various types of post hammers. The holes are located on one of the faces along the length of the post, which is very convenient in the installation of any kind of mesh for fencing.

Comparison of the cost of fence posts

As we have already found out, most often, to install a mesh fence, either concrete poles or metal poles are used.

In order to compare the price, let's take different poles that can be used to install a chain-link and cossack mesh fence and the cost of delivery to a certain point (for example, to Cherkasy).

As you can see, despite the low price of concrete pillars, their cost with transport costs will turn out to be much higher than metal Cossacks. And, given their quality, durability and ease of installation, this is the best choice.

Thus, Cossack poles are the most high-quality, convenient, aesthetic and inexpensive pole for installing the chain-link mesh and for the Cossack mesh.
